Rip Curl is getting ready to kick off the first competition in this year's 2003 USA Gromsearch program next week. The first event of the national six event series will be held at San Clemente Pier on Tuesday, August 12th. Each Gromsearch event is set to be a fun and explosive celebration of grommet surfing, designed to be way more than your average contest with a unique double elimination format, giveaways, prizes, and showbags for all entrants.

Gromsearch provides a platform with something for everyone. Entry forms have poured into Rip Curl headquarters putting the field of 80 competitiors to full capacity. The full house - event will allow all the top grommetss in the region an opportunity to congregate at one of the most popular surf spots in Southern California. A double elimination format allows all contestants to surf more than once, providing a more friendly contest environment without the pressures of standard elimination competition.

Rip Curl anticipates tons of fun, sun and explosive surfing from the hottest groms in the region. Swell charts look promising with a solid 3-4 ft. + southwest swell set to peak on Tuesday morning. On the beach it will be the wheel of misfortune keeping the groms busy in all kinds of crazy fun. Prizes can be won from all of Gromsearch's insane sponsors: Transworld Surf, Dragon Optical, Hansen's Energy Drink, and Reef.

Gromsearch events will be getting full publicity coverage from Transworld Surf, Fox 54321, Let's Talk Surfing radio station, and local TV stations from around the region.

"Rip Curl is stoked to announce our 2003 Gromsearch series and we're ready to rock both coasts over the next few months. The interest in junior surfing in America is incredibly high and there's a place in this for every young grom", said Rip Curl's Team and Promotions Manager Scott 'POD' Banuelos.

Each event will incorporate four different Age divisions - Boys 16 and Under, 14 and Under, 12 and Under, and Girls 16 and Under. Age division limits are as of January 1, 2003. The top three finishes at each regional event per Age Division will qualify for the National Final at Salt Creek in October.
